A festival curated by Priti Patel to promote young upcoming dancers at Max Muller Bhavan.

Yaiphabi—the blessed one November and December, 2006, Nehru Park, Delhi and Kalakshetra Chennai.

This production is based on the beautiful and mystical dance traditions of Manipur. Yaiphabi is in two parts. The first part begins with the Yaikairol,an invocation sung in the Lai-Haraoba temples to wake up the Gods.

The Story

The dances of the Creation of the Universe, and the creation of man are very important in these rituals. It is said that the dance of creation is the origin of the Manipuri dance we see today. Accompanied by the ancient drums and instruments like Pena- an indigenous instrument of the Lai-Haraoba tradition, this piece comes alive through the vibrant ritualistic dances.

It is said that the dances of the Manipuri Ras–Leela have originated from the ritualistic dances of the Lai-Haraoba.
